The Finnish startup scene is flourishing with new interesting startups. A great place to follow “the hottest startups from Finland” is the Startup100 list established by FiBAN’s business angel member, marketing enthusiast, Juhani Polkko. The site was established in 2013 and the spark came from Polkko’s interest to boost Finnish startup communication. The site has grown to cover over a 1000 startups with approximately 10.000 monthly newsletter subscribers.
THE 100 HOTTEST FINNISH STARTUPS LIST
The startup100 list doesn’t have any sector limitations but covers companies less than 10 years old who develop their own digital/physical products. Startups are presented in two categories: 1. The Top100 “most communicated companies” and 2. “Trending companies”, which reacts to the rapid changes of a startup’s visibility. A great list for especially angels to follow about what’s bubbling under.
According to Polkko companies on the list have already received interest from international investors.

START YOUR STARTUP MARKETING YEARLYAccording to Polkko the typical question about startup marketing is simply how to gain more customer leads. “Marketing funnel is the best tool to understand the big picture. At the awareness level on top the audience learns that certain kinds of solutions even exist, and that your company is driving the change. The marketer’s job is to communicate efficiently, create appealing content and make it discoverable all over the web to get inbound sales leads“, says Polkko. Today social media plays a crucial part in the awareness level, in addition to PR. A startup can easily establish their early-stage social media communication, but with growth this becomes more challenging. It is often forgotten that the “early adopter” customers are relatively easy to engage . However, attracting the later stage masses requires a more professional approach.
Polkko’s guidelines to support startup marketing:
Startup visibility on Startup100The company should register themselves with Business ID, website and social media links. After this the site will gather all the activity related to the startup. It’s all about being an active communicator from a very early stage.
To support the development of startup communication and marketing, FiBAN is glad to have Polkko’s marketing agency San Francisco become a network partner. This is a great opportunity for business angels to enhance their marketing skills.
