EntoCube develops sustainable insect farming technologies. The startup is involved in partnerships with major food and industrial companies, research institutes, farmers, and NASA. The inspiring start to EntoCube came from civil engineer and former astronaut candidate Robert Nemlander who was challenged with sustainable, environmental-controlled food production on future missions to
Mars. Nemlander decided to take action on a global challenge, since edible insects show great promise in addressing the massive climate impact of animal protein productionand global food security. Insects can be produced at a fraction of feed and water inputs compared to other animal proteins. Insects are also naturally suitable for high density farming and are able to feed on low-value feedstock. Due to lack of existing efficient farming solutions this potential remains under-utilized. EntoCube’s farming technology makes insect farming economically viable and opens a wide range of possibilities for the adoption of edible insects in the food system.
"With this investment EntoCube strengthens its position as one of the leading global insect farming technology companies. The invested money will be used to fuel product development and internationalization." - CEO & Co-founder Perttu Karjalainen.
