Investing in startups is high-risk. As an asset class, they are one of the riskiest for a private investor. In terms of investments, high risk can equal high reward, but no angel investor should ever have to take a gamble with their personal credit rating. Thus, FiBAN and Asiakastieto introduced a service already in 2012, helping FiBAN members keep their credit rating safe.The purpose of the service is to improve the information regarding the people in charge of target companies and simultaneously prevent the negative impact of poorly performing portfolio companies on an investors other portfolio companies.
Personal credit ratings could be affected by, for example a startup bankruptcy, in which the investor is a board member of. FiBAN's approved investor members can apply for the limitation of their credit responsibilities, with the credit rating protection form. The credit rating protection then restricts the responsibilities from reaching the investor's personal credit ratings.
